Volcanic Vice - Mystery in the Library

The Ngaio Marsh Awards, in association with Rotorua Library Te Aka Mauri, invites booklovers to a thrilling evening of criminally good conversation with four talented Bay of Plenty writers.

Crime writing has come a long way since Dame Ngaio Marsh set one of her popular Inspector Alleyn tales among the hot pools of our country in 1943, shifting from puzzling entertainments to modern tales delving deeply into people, places, and psychology.

Rotorua law researcher and debut author Claire Baylis is joined by fellow 2024 Ngaios entrant Denise Fitzpatrick, past Ngaios Best Non Fiction finalist and journalist Jared Savage, and chair Zoe Rankin, a local short story writer and thriller writer, to discuss how they craft page-turning storylines, fictional and real, and bring characters and settings to life on the page while exploring real-life issues.
